On Aug. 16, Neepawa will host a special concert featuring pianist Cameron Streicher.
Streicher, a pianist, piano teacher, singer and choral director who lives near Listowel, Ont., will be stopping in Neepawa on his way to Yorkton for the Canadian National Conservatory of Music鈥檚 Summer Sizzle.
Streicher, 24, graduated this spring with a music degree from Wilfred Laurier University. Local pianist and composer Remi Bouchard got to know Streicher as both were involved in the CNCM over the last few years.
鈥淗e鈥檚 quite brilliant,鈥 said Bouchard.
Streicher will be playing a selection of pieces, from classical to modern. Bouchard said that it will be an extensive program of short pieces from composers including J.S. Bach, Franz Listz, Philip Glass and Edvard Greig.
Bouchard said that the concert will also feature four pieces composed by Bouchard. One of the pieces will be 鈥387 Third Ave鈥 which is a recently published piece that draws its name from the house out of which Bouchard began teaching music as a 20-year-old.
Bouchard said that Streicher is looking forward to coming to Neepawa.
In addition to Streicher, the concert will feature a guest emcee, Gord Leclerc of CTV News. Bouchard said that Leclerc is a cousin of his and will combine his visit to Neepawa with some family visits in Ste. Rose and Laurier.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Knox Presbyterian Church. For more information or tickets, please contact the Viscount Cultural Centre.
