The classic barbershop experience is making a comeback, and Minnedosa is now part of that movement. On Wednesday, Jan. 10, K.S. Hunter鈥檚 Barbershop opened for business, offering the luxury of an old style haircut and straight razor shave.

Riverdale Municipality held a public hearing on Thursday, Jan. 4; council and CAO outnumbered interested residents. Mayor Todd Gill suggested the poor attendance was because the project was so old or the weather too cold. Rivers Banner countered that because Christmas holidays were still in effect and children not back in school was why people were absent. Regardless of the reason, only seven citizens, this reporter and two WCG-TV Channel 12 volunteers comprised the crowd.

Rivers Police Service (RPS) had 47 calls during December which were categorized in the following manner. Five Criminal Code violations: two assaults, two frauds and one other crime such as a breach, public mischief, harassing phone call, etc. In the year, there were 69 Criminal Code cases: one sexual offence, one abduction/forcible confinement, five assaults, two break and enters, one theft of a motor vehicle, 178 thefts under $5,000, eight property damages, one offensive weapon, four frauds, two drug cases and 27 others.

Tuesday, January 11, 1938
The intermediate hockey team went to Minnedosa Saturday night and brought home the Brimms challenge cup as a result of winning the game against the Valley town鈥檚 team by a score of 4-3. The contest was reported as a stiff one throughout with the newly coached Minnedosans battling against the rivals in good style. The high pitch interest in the game was kept up until the last with the goals being scored alternately. Neepawa鈥檚 scoring honours went to Jim Guinn, G. Vivian, Bert Randall and M. Tomlin. The cup has been presented to the intermediate league by Corporal Brimms of the RCMP, of Minnedosa and the Minnedosa team will come to Neepawa Wednesday night in an attempt to take it home with them.

It could have been very easy for the Neepawa Farmers to overlook their opposition, the Pilot Mound Pilots on Friday, Jan. 12. The reason for it being a potential trap game for Neepawa went well beyond the Pilots鈥� disappointing 2-9-3 record. It would have had more to do with the Farmers鈥� looking ahead to their next home game, against the Tiger Hills Hockey League鈥檚 best team, the Killarney Shamrocks. Fortunately for the Farmers, a four goal night from Garett Rempel helped ensure Neepawa took care of the task at hand, on the way to a 12-5 win.
