On Aug. 1, longtime Neepawa business Harris Pharmacy changed hands. The pharmacy was sold by the Harris family to employee Heather Todoruk.
The business was started by the late Art Harris, who took over the Murphy and Hole Pharmacy from Boxer Hole after moving to Neepawa in 1959. Art鈥檚 son Kevin, started working with his dad in 1989 and expanded the store twice in his 25 years in the business.
After working 23 years along side Kevin, as well as Art, Todoruk knows just about all there is to know about the operation of Harris Pharmacy.
鈥淚鈥檓 really happy with taking over the pharmacy. Kevin is happy and I think Art would be happy too,鈥 said Todoruk.
鈥淣ot much is going to change,鈥 Todoruk continued. 鈥淲ell a few things will change,鈥 she added with a smile.
About the sale, Kevin Harris said, 鈥淚 am 100 per cent happy with Heather buying the pharmacy. I am extremely happy that after 23 years of working together that Heather will take over the store.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been in the family a long time and I still think of it staying in the family with Heather [buying it]," he continued.
Harris is known for his strong support of the community and he praised Todoruk鈥檚 commitment to the community.
鈥淗eather has a great family and they are great community workers. I couldn鈥檛 be happier."
As for his personal plans after the sale, Harris said he's moved on with his life.
"I haven鈥檛 got any set plans as of now.鈥
He plans to travel and this week, was in Sturgis, SD for the motorcycle rally. He might even take a cooking course.
鈥淚 love to cook,鈥 he concluded.
