Loyal readers will be familiar with the name Scott Beever of Rivers, and his success on the baseball diamond as a player and pitcher. He has competed in five provincial championships, four Western Canadian championships, two national championships, a Western Canada senior championship and two Canada Cups. On Aug. 7 Scott pitched the opening game of the annual Western Canadian Junior AAA championships, this year hosted in Winnipeg. A teammate with Elmwood Giants since 2011, that first game which saw them clean the board with a 3-0 score, was truly a team effort.
Scott pitched a complete game seven inning no-hitter. He faced 26 batters from the Weyburn A鈥檚 team; he struck out 11 and allowed five base runners on three walks and two errors. While Scott showed his stellar pitching skills, every position on the field produced an out.
Following round robin play with the six teams from the Prairies, Elmwood advanced to the finals only to meet the second 水果视频 team, an undefeated Pembina Valley. Giants played strong and won the first game 5-3 (with Scott once again on the mound) but lost the second when the Morden-based opposition quadrupled their score, 4-1, winning the title and golden medallions.
Scott spent the summer playing Western Major Baseball League ball with Weyburn Beavers. Beavers lost to Swift Current in the first round of playoffs, thus allowing Scott to rejoin the Giants for the weekend tournament. He returns to Jamestown, ND this weekend where he will resume play with University of Jamestown Jimmies in his junior year.
