The new space for Whitey鈥檚 Fitness Body Shop in Neepawa is taking shape. Earlier this week, the business completed its move to the basement at the former Co-op building, on Mountain Avenue. Owner and operator Sherrie Hockin said the new location provides them with much more space.
鈥淭his is probably the perfect spot for the gym. It鈥檚 bigger. Upstairs we had about 2800 square feet of total space. Down here, we have 3800 square feet for our workout area alone.鈥 said Hockin. 鈥淎s well, we now have a nice little lounge area at the entrance. Brand new bathrooms, change areas and showers, that鈥檒l get used now.鈥
The massive renovation was spearheaded by the owner of the building, Zen Development and included a complete overhaul of the space.
鈥淓verything was redone from top to bottom. The lighting, and wiring. All of the walls, stucco, paint. There are brand new mats on the floor. It basically started from scratch.鈥 Hockin noted.
鈥淚t鈥檚 definitely going to allow us to expand our class sizes. Upstairs we were limited on the indoor classes and how many people we could take. Ten of twelve people per class would be pretty crammed but we can now easily fit fourteen to sixteen people in a class and still have room to move.鈥濃︹淪tarting next week, we鈥檒l be offering yoga, zumba and X-Fit classes. We鈥檒l be offering a boot camp and just pure strength training classes, which include barbells, dumbbells, and kettle bells. A whole variety.鈥
Hockin added that the initial response from the gym鈥檚 members has been very positive.
鈥淪ome people were a little worried. Anybody who saw [the basement area] before the renovations may have had a few questions about how it was going to work, but Zen Development basically made it look like a brand new space.鈥 said Hockin.
鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be pretty awesome and that鈥檚 the vibe we鈥檝e received so far from the people who have stepped in here. It鈥檚 done. It鈥檚 spacious and it looks good. It鈥檚 new and modern and it should bring some new people in while keeping our existing members around and happy.鈥
