Press Release
For one day only, you can make an even bigger difference in our community. Nov. 15 is National Philanthropy Day, and on that Saturday only, all donations made online to Rivers and Area Community Foundation (RACF) will be stretched by a contribution from The Winnipeg Foundation.
Only gifts made between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. at www.endowmanitoba.ca to RACF’s unrestricted fund will be eligible. For every $5 you give, The Winnipeg Foundation will add $1.
Stretching your gift means even more benefit for your hometown. RACF plays a vital, lasting role by supporting charitable projects that improve life for all of us. RACF has supported all aspects of life in Rivers and area, making grants to a wide variety of worthy causes, from daycares to seniors’ homes, playgrounds, scholarships and school improvements, to food banks, fitness and much, much more. Grants were first issued in 2010 and to date, more than $50,000 has been provided for projects in and around Rivers, including at grant to Rapid City’s golf course last year.
These grants are possible because of generous gifts from local donors. Community foundations pool and endow (permanently invest) all gifts so the income earned supports a variety of projects within the foundation’s catchment area. The original contribution (from the estate of Bernard and Iola Goekoop) is never spent, ensuring a lasting legacy for donors and a permanent source of support for the community.
Canada’s community foundation movement started in 1921 with the establishment of The Winnipeg Foundation. Ninety-three years later there are 51 community foundations in our province – more than a quarter of Canada’s total. These foundations are part of Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ’s history of generosity, a tradition in which we can all participate and take pride. Nov. 15 is a great time to invest in the future of Rivers and area. (However RACF will gladly receive your support any time of year.) No matter the size of your gift, your contribution will improve life here for generations to come.
