The McCreary Ski & Outdoor Club is marking the fifth annual RBC Sports Day in Canada with a wide array of festivities to get you active.
The group is hosting a Cross Country Skiing or Snowshoeing Day, as well as a Winter Biking Demonstration on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the McCreary Golf & Country Club.
Club secretary Pam Little said the Sports Day is a celebration of the power of sport to build community and get Canadians moving. The festivities on Saturday are the culmination of more than 1,000 events across the country. Little added that this is the second year McCreary has participated in this national effort.
鈥淥ur club is thrilled to be part of RBC Sports Day in Canada,鈥 said Little. 鈥滿cCreary鈥檚 Sport Day is open to everyone and all activities are free. This year, we鈥檙e trying something new and are featuring winter biking demonstrations. We have a club within our club called the Dead Ox Trailblazers, who take part in winter biking. So, we thought it鈥檇 be neat for people to see the bikes that they ride and that this is an up and coming sport.鈥
Little noted that just over 40 people came out to the inaugural event last year. Considering the frigid conditions on that day, the club was quite pleased with the response. Little said they expect this years鈥 Sport Day will be even bigger and better and encourage all ages of people to participate in sport.
鈥淓ven if you don鈥檛 want to get involved, there鈥檒l be a lot of activities to keep everyone entertained. They鈥檒l be fun team games on foot, skis and snowshoes with folks to help you get started,鈥 said Little. 鈥淭hese activities can be a sport for life. If you can walk, you can cross country ski or snowshoe. We think of it as just getting people up and active in the winter.鈥
The festivities will begin at McCreary Golf & Country Club on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1:30 pm. Everyone is invited to attend. The Ski & Outdoor Club will also host its AGM and a potluck dinner. A special presentation 鈥淢ountain Biking: the economics and fun鈥 by Reade Tereck and Dennis Buhler will also take place after 4:30.
