As the year 2014 comes to a close, how wonderful it is to report that Prairie Crocus Regional Library has been a busy place! The holiday season is upon us once again, the season for giving and receiving as well as being thankful for friends and family.
Our community has many clubs and organizations that receive donations from individuals near and far, but have you considered a donation toward your community library? An official charitable receipt will be issued for any cash donation we receive.
Many of you are aware that we are planning to construct a wheelchair accessible washroom on the main floor of the library (our washroom is upstairs). We are allowed to apply for a grant for the second half of the construction costs once we have the first half available. This project has been estimated at approximately $20,000 of which we already have earmarked slightly more than $6,000 — we are over halfway there! But we still have a little ways to go in the way of fundraising for our half of the project. Our government has plans to make accessibility in public buildings mandatory but we are fortunate to already have a wheelchair ramp and automatic wide doors in our entrance.
To all new members of our community and surrounding area please accept this as your invitation to come visit us! My name is Sherri Dziver and I am the present librarian; my assistant is Michelle Willows and our student assistant is Rachel Veitch. Town of Rivers and RM of Daly residents can obtain a free library membership. Non-residents are welcome too, with a low annual membership fee. We have a wide selection of newly-released books in our collection as well as a selection of Christmas novels from your favourite authors and a large selection of Christmas books and movies for kids.
Currently we have a fundraising raffle going on, with the first prize being a beautifully framed photo of Rivers Lake that has been graciously donated by Cherrill Hrabok. Second prize is $25. The draw date is Dec. 19 so drop in and get your ticket! We will also be hosting a fundraising bake sale on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 2 to 8 p.m.; donations of bake items would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped at the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. Once again, please consider your community library during this giving season.
