RCMP in Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ will be conducting high visibility, high volume Checkstops over the weekend, paying particular attention to apprehending impaired drivers as well as those driving too fast for road conditions. Extra officers will be working the weekend to assist with the enhanced enforcement.
Road safety is for all seasons. Slowing down, buckling up, driving sober – these road safety rules apply all year long. It is important to be aware that in the winter months, the weather can change very suddenly, causing issues for motorists. Blowing snow can create low visibility. Warmer temperatures can create water on the road that will freeze quickly when temperatures drop, creating icy road conditions. All of these factors can create potentially tragic situations if motorists are not driving with caution.
Milder temperatures also have more people out on the roads as they leave the warmth of their homes. If you are out at an event or visiting with friends and having alcoholic beverages, plan ahead for a ride home. Zero is the number of drinks to have before operating a motor vehicle.
RCMP are committed to road safety, and the enhanced enforcement this weekend is one way we are working to help get everyone home safely.
