Riverdale Park entering 水果视频ville contest

By Jen Brown

Vice-president

With the school year coming to an end, our elementary students were more than excited to partake in a fun event that meant a break from the classrooms, and the weather couldn鈥檛 have been better for this 鈥渨ater activity!鈥  On Tuesday, June 23, Riverdale Splash Park Committee organized a video that was filmed as part of an entry for the 水果视频ville Video Contest, outside at Rivers Elementary.

鈥溗悠祐ille鈥 is a chance for a community in 水果视频 to win $25,000 towards a community project.  The video must showcase that hometown and highlight the project idea. Entries must be submitted by Aug. 2 and the Top 10 finalists (videos) will be revealed Aug. 7 by BOB FM.  Then, the public votes for a winner.

水果视频ville is presented by Westoba Credit Union and SAFE Work 水果视频, and proudly supported by Robertson College, Chicken Chef, Star Building Materials and Ready-To-Move 水果视频s, and Recycle Everywhere. Warren Smallwood of Rivers agreed to donate his time to film the event. Rivers business Clean Under Pressure came with pressure-washing tools and sprayed and splashed these poor 鈥渟ad鈥 kids. (Students were told to look sad because they need something fun to do.) 鈥淲e need a splash park鈥 was splashed across the signs that some older students were holding for the video. Keep a watch on our Facebook page (Riverdale Splash Park) for the video to be posted, as well as more information to come IF we make it to the top 10!

We would like to thank principal Krista Reynolds and all the staff who allowed this to happen during school hours and on school grounds, as well as all the students and parents, and everyone from the community who joined in the fun!

A splash park would be a viable asset to Riverdale Municipality, complementing Riverdale Community Centre during the summer months. We feel it would not only benefit the town, but our surrounding communities. I am a mother to three small kids and I travel to Brandon at least once a week, and sometimes three times a week, to attend various splash parks with my children during the summer months. This consumes a great deal of expense when fuel and mileage are taken into account. I would use, benefit and love to have our own splash park, and I know several other parents who feel the same! Our community is growing and kids need activities to partake in. Please support our various efforts as we aim to fundraise $300,000 for this park. Our next big event is an auction on July 18 at Riverdale Community Centre. The day will have plenty of children鈥檚 activities, supper and a dance; items of any value are currently being collected for the auction which will certainly be penny, silent and perhaps live. Feel free to contact any committee member (Barb Plewes, Jen Brown, Leanne Miskulin, Betty MacDonald) for pick-up of your donation or leave it at Shelly Mom鈥檚 Kitchen in Rivers.
