80 years ago Tuesday, February 18, 1936

30掳 below zero weather outside did not deter a large crowd from attending the first Masquerade Carnival in Neepawa鈥檚 new municipal rink on Friday night. It proved to be an enjoyable event for both old and young. Costumes were notable for their diversity and originality displayed was remarkable. Many adults, as well as children, dressed for the occasion. The ice was in excellent condition. 

70 years ago Thursday, February 21, 1946

Neepawa is considered to be one of the electoral seats lost by 水果视频 in the new carving up process of representatives to the House of Commons. Although the committee at Ottawa had not made any definite statement, it is expected that Neepawa and MacDonald will lose their seats. 

60 years ago Thursday, February 16, 1956

A man and his wife sat in a booth in a caf茅. Their heads were close together and their coffee was growing cold so engrossed were they in conversation. To all appearances, the scene was an innocent one, but if one was to take the liberty of eavesdropping, he would have probably heard a glowing example of one of the most dangerous practices existing today  鈥 gossip.

50 years ago Tuesday, February 15, 1966

Peter Dobchuk lost three pigs Monday night when a lynx entered his pigpen, killing one and mutilating the others to the extent they had to be destroyed. In these days of high pork prices, this is quite a loss for the Dobchuk family. District skidoo hunters are on the alert and hope to track down the marauder before more damage is done. 

40 years ago Thursday, February 19, 1976

Doug McBride joined the staff of the Neepawa Press this week, taking on a joint advertising 鈥 news-writing portfolio. Doug will handle the sports news for the press and will work in the advertising and office supplies aspects of the business as well. 

Doug, 18, lived in Neepawa for 15 years, before moving to Brandon where he completed his education. Following his schooling, he returned to Neepawa. Doug has long been interested in sports and hopes to continue his active participation in many of the sports in which he excelled.

30 years ago Thursday, February 20, 1986

Thaw Draw - It is that time of year again, and you can stand to win $500 in the annual 鈥淜insman Thaw Draw鈥! Lisgar鈥揗arquette MP Jake Hoeppner says he is being persecuted by the Canadian Wheat Board and his life has been threatened by his attempts to expose corruption. But the lone 水果视频 Reform MP stopped short of saying the Federal Grain Marketing Agency is behind the death threats. 

鈥淢y intent is not to destroy our system but to expose the inherent problems and irregularities that exists in an industry that enjoys  immunity from public scrutiny,鈥 Hoeppner said in a news conference in Winnipeg last week.

Two men and a woman have been charged with arson after the Minnedosa United Church burned to the ground just hours before worshippers were to arrive for last weeks Sunday service. Kelsey Ray Taylor, 21, Deanna Lynn Mathews, 19, both of Brandon and Mark Wishart, 20, of Minnedosa, allegedly doused the building in gasoline before setting the $1.2 million fire.

Police and fire fighters were called to the church around 4:45 am last Sunday. Fire fighters were unable to save the structure, built in 1901.
