Gladstone Kinsmen Chili Cookoff cancelled

Due to lack of entries, the Gladstone Kinsmen club鈥檚 Chili Cookoff set for March 17 was cancelled. The event was to be a contest to see who in town has the best chili, but nobody entered their recipes, so it could not go forward.
The event was to raise money for the WMCI gymnasium upgrades and the construction of the new daycare building in Gladstone.
Gord Patterson, member of the Kinsmen club, said that it鈥檚 back to the drawing board for fundraising ideas, but they may even have to start looking at disbanding the club. 鈥淚t鈥檚 getting support from the community [that鈥檚 the problem],鈥� Patterson said, 鈥淸It] gets disheartening.鈥�
Patterson noted when initially telling the Banner about the cookoff, 鈥淲e鈥檙e only as successful as the community allows us to be.鈥� As there was little community support, this fundraiser was not allowed to be successful.
