Timely reminders from Rivers Police

By Bruce Klassen

Rivers Police Chief

Rivers Police Service would like to remind motorists that because the weather has become more spring-like, there will be more pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Please keep an eye out for walkers and kids on bicycles.

While Rivers & Area Game & Fish Association had a successful ice fishing derby on March 12, they should count themselves blessed because on March 9, the province was urging fishermen to remove ice shacks from lakes and rivers in southern 水果视频.

Their press release, now dated 10 days ago, says, 鈥淲arm temperatures are causing ice conditions across much of 水果视频 to deteriorate faster than normal this spring. A milder-than-usual winter meant ice did not reach its usual thickness in many areas. Everyone venturing onto the ice should exercise caution and good judgment.

March 31 is normally the last day for removal of ice shacks in the south, but fishers are asked to have shacks south of Riding Mountain National Park, as well as those on Lake of the Prairies, Dauphin Lake, Moose Lake and Buffalo Bay in the Lake of the Woods, off the ice by March 15.鈥
