Women's Conference set for Clear Lake

Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ Women’s Institute (MWI) is honoured that the lieutenant-governor of Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ, Honourable Janice Filmon, will be the banquet speaker at the organization’s 2016 convention to be held at Elkhorn Resort, Clear Lake, on May 6 and 7.
The theme of the conference, which opens at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6, is Caring, Sharing, and Daring. The Friday afternoon program features three topnotch speakers: Dave McGregor, CEO of Child and Family Services of western Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ; Deva Marie Beck, Nightingale Initiative for Global Health; and Jennifer Poulain on the topic of Investment Fundamentals for Women. The day will conclude with the banquet, the address by Her Honour, and entertainment by Doreen Stapleton.
The agenda for Saturday, May 7, is packed. Business of the annual general meeting will include the debate of 10 well-written resolutions. Brief presentations will be made by Pat Orsak (Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development — MAFRD), MWI president Donna Young, and Linda Hoy, president of Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada. Other features will be a jewelry and scarf swap, a people’s choice craft competition, the annual home and country auction, and a video tribute to The Spirit of Nellie McClung.
Members from across the province will be gathering in Clear Lake for this event, but non-members are also welcome. Participants may attend the full conference or just part of it.
MWI is a rural women’s organization that works for the betterment of women, their families and their communities in this province and around the world. Attendance at the upcoming conference in Clear Lake will surely entertain, educate and inspire. Come care, share and dare with MWI!
