Just over a hundred friends and well wishers gathered at Chicken Corral on Thursday, Apr. 21 in celebration of Cecil Pittman and his contributions to Neepawa鈥檚 newspaper history.
Cecil stands with Christine and Ken Waddell, the owners and publishers of the Neepawa Press, who sent in the application for Cecil's award. Christine is holding a photocopy of his first Looking Back column signed by all the guests at his surprise party.
The surprise gathering was to celebrate Pittman鈥檚 25 plus years of producing the weekly Looking Back feature in the Neepawa Press, as well as his receipt of the Canadian Community Newspapers Association鈥檚 (CCNA) Silver Quill Award. The Silver Quill recognizes individuals for 25 years of service to the newspaper industry and those who have made a distinguished contribution to the association. Pittman鈥檚 first Looking Back column was published on May 23, 1989 and has become a long time favourite of readers of the Press.
