The 35th annual Rolling River Festival of the Arts was a five-day affair (mid-March) in Minnedosa. Adjudicators were secured for each session and they determined the following as winners for 2016.
Piano: Grade 1, Anya Waldner, Minnedosa and Kadence Loring, Rorketon, Sask.; Grade 2, Renae Stahl, Minnedosa; Grade 3, Raylyn Koshowski, Dauphin and Bennah Lundquist, Winnipegosis; Grade 5, Lenci Waldner, Minnedosa; Grade 6, Sarah MacDonald, Minnedosa; no Grade 7 entry; Grade 8, Oksana Iwanchysko, Dauphin; Grade 9, Georgia-Rae Maxwell, Forrest; Grade 10 and Canadian Composer Class Award (two different wins), Titus Lee, Brandon.
Violin Solo Grades 1-4, Noah Paddock, Rivers.
Vocal: solo ages 11-14, Kadence Loring, Rorketon; solo junior/intermediate; Emma Peterson, Winnipegosis.
Speech Arts: solo spoken poetry Grades 7-12, public speaking and solo prose reading (three different wins), Emma Miskulin, Rivers; speech choirs Grades 3-6, won by Grade 5/6 Kingdon.
Dance: solo ages 9-12, Ava Acevedo, Brandon; solo ages 13-18, Alana Moorehead, Brandon; duo/trio/group ages 9-12, Brody Burr (Rapid City) and Ava Acevedo; duo/trio/group ages 13-18, Jadyn Burr (Rapid City) and Alana Moorehead.
Scholarships: Renae Stahl, Minnedosa, piano, Grades 1-4; Aleda Waldner, Minnedosa, piano Grades 5 and 6; Oksana Iwanchysko, Dauphin, piano Grades 7 and 8; Shelby Nohr, Brandon, piano Grades 9 and over; Sarah MacDonald, Minnedosa, most promising piano student , Grades 4-7; Titus Lee, highest mark in piano, Grade 8 and over; Kadence Loring, vocal, 14 and under; Emma Peterson, vocal,18 and under; Judah and Noah Paddock, violin, Grades 1-4; Delaney Leefe, jazz solo; Darby Hiscock, Carson and Brody Burr, hip hop trio; Carson Burr, tap solo; Amber Pomeroy, Rivers, self-choreography solo; Jadyn Burr and Alana Moorehead, most promising dance soloists.
Recommended to compete at the provincial festival finals, which are held this year at Brandon University May 27-29: Emma Miskulin, poetry, prose, and prepared speech (three different classes); Chloe Sorenson, Winnipegosis, preliminary musical theatre; Tayla Stykalo, Dauphin, junior musical theatre; Emma Peterson, intermediate musical theatre; Raylyn Koshowski, Dauphin, preliminary piano; Lenci Waldner, Minnedosa and Talia Iwanchysko, Dauphin, junior piano; Oksana Iwanchysko, intermediate piano; Georgia-Rae Maxwell, advanced piano and intermediate piano, Canadian composers(two different classes); Titus Lee, senior piano, senior piano Canadian composers, senior piano W.A. Mozart (three different classes); Trina Waldner, Minnedosa, preliminary piano, Canadian composers; Shelby Nohr, advanced piano Canadian composers.
