From May 23 to 27, Neepawa played host to three first-year medical students, from the University of Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ, as part of this year’s Rural Week.
Rural Week 2016, coordinated by Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ’s Office of Rural and Northern Health (ORNH), the University and rural regional health authorities, provided an excellent opportunity for 110 medical students to gain first-hand experience of how a rural and northern Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ medical practice functions. It also doubles by extolling the benefits of working and living in a rural/northern Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ area.
PMH Director of Medical Services Administration, Michelle McKay, says the event is a ‘win-win’ all the way around.
Prairie Mountain Health hosted 35 medical students, who were assigned to 13 communities within the health region. In addition to Neepawa, other PMH communities were Boissevain/Deloraine, Brandon, Dauphin, Hamiota, Rivers, Russell, Souris, Ste. Rose, Swan River, Treherne and Virden.
