Reeves and mayors from across the region gathered in Neepawa on Friday, June 15, for the Association of 水果视频 Municipalities鈥 (AMM) District Meeting. These meetings are held throughout the province in each of the AMM鈥檚 seven districts, with Neepawa serving as the host location for the Midwestern District.
The resolutions that are passed during the June meetings will eventually go to the 2018 Annual Convention where they are voted on by the entire AMM membership. AMM president Chris Goertzen said the district meetings are an important part of their year-long process of consulting and listening to members and making sure they are represented the best way possible to the provincial government. He noted that a number of policy changes are discussed, but they also look at resolutions and discuss those resolutions with their members and advocate for them.
Neepawa mayor Adrian de Groot said a get-together like this is an opportunity for its members to discuss some important issues.
鈥淎 gathering like this is certainly important. This is an opportunity for a lot of councilors and administrators to get involved, and really get into a more casual conversation, talking about the issues and some of the details of what鈥檚 happening within their communities.鈥 stated de Groot. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 the power of some of the regional meetings. A change to get together and deliberate on some important issues that we鈥檇 like the AMM to examine, moving ahead.鈥
As for the resolutions that were brought forward during the meeting, there were three on the Midwest District agenda. One suggested the placement of driver feedback signs on highways. The second suggested a review of Section 5.6 of the Income Tax Act, while the third examined the registration of candidates for municipal elections.
The Association of 水果视频 Municipalities' annual convention will be held in Winnipeg Nov. 26-28.
