The Province of 水果视频 has announced that Neepawa will be getting a brand new hospital in the next few years. On Friday, Dec. 10, Premier Heather Stefanson and Health and Seniors Care Minister Audrey Gordon made the announcement at the Yellowhead Centre in Neepawa.
The new facility is expected cost at least $127 million and will be more than double the size of the current Neepawa Health Centre. It will feature at least 60 acute care inpatient beds, whereas the current facility only has 35. There will also be an expanded emergency department and more space for surgery, diagnostics, palliative care and various outpatient services, including dialysis and chemotherapy.
The Province is optimistic that construction will begin around this time next year, with a projected completion date of 2025. They have not yet confirmed a location for the new hospital.
This new facility is aimed at being a regional centre, so that patients in the westman area don't have to travel to Winnipeg or Brandon for many of the services. It will not, however, result in a reduction of services at other health centres in the region, such as Minnedosa's.
More details will be available in a coming edition of the Banner & Press.
