Future of Bird Sanctuary in doubt

The Rotary Park Bird Sanctuary in Neepawa may have to cease operations, unless someone steps up soon to take over its caretaking duties. The sanctuary, which first opened in 2000, has been kept operational by Jake Birch and a small, but dedicated group of people over the years. But at the end of August, Birch and fellow volunteer George Burnett will permanently step down from the job, saying the physical toll is starting to catch up with them.

Fair weather for Oak River Fair

Inclement weather has been very common in the district this past month, specifically in the Oak River district which had some hail the end of June, more than 4.5 inches of rain in a span of eight days in early July and another seven-tenths of rain on July 19. But Monday, July 18 was a beautiful day 鈥 hot, full sun, no hint of moisture. Director Gord Paddock expresses fortune because, 鈥淚t鈥檚 been years since our fair has been rained out; we have been really lucky with the weather.鈥

In 1905, Sinclair Brown arranged for Osborne Photo to take a photograph of his threshing crew, which is the photo seen here. Unfortunately, when the photo was donated to the 水果视频 Agricultural Museum, no information accompanied the photo so we have no idea who the men seen in the photo are or where Sinclair Brown was operating. However, the 水果视频 Historical Society lists A. Osborne as being a photographer in Boissevain. So it may well be Sinclair Brown was operating in the Boissevain area.

McCreary School

McCreary School Graduation 2016 was held on Saturday, June 25 at 2:30 pm in the school gymnasium with the chosen theme of 鈥淭he Rest is Still Unwritten鈥. The graduates were Jenna Law and Cheyenne Levandoski, both graduating with Honours (80 per cent or higher).

Sayer wins Minnedosa Senior Ladies鈥 Open

Giselle Sayer has taken top spot in this year鈥檚 edition of the Minnedosa Senior Ladies鈥 Open.  Sayer was able to claim the championship flight by shooting a round of 89, finishing two strokes ahead of Sherril Flick (91). Jayne Troop finished in third place with a 92, while Lois Fowler ended up in fourth posittion with a 93.
