Before I go any further, let me say that it looks like I made a mistake in my column two weeks ago, writing about the number of deaths due to all causes in 2019 versus 2020. I quoted the figures accurately, but it was pointed out to me that the stats are reported from July 1 to June 30 so the 2020 figures I wrote about didn鈥檛 show the actual deaths for July 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2020. In other words, COVID-19 may have raised the actual number of death by more than the 120 or so it appeared to be. We won鈥檛 know until the stats are totalled.

The Winnipeg Sun summed up the new federal budget this way: 鈥淭hey鈥檙e planning to create a national day care program, increase the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour and throw billions of more dollars at pet 鈥榞reen鈥 projects, among other new gimmicks. We鈥檙e seeing the same attitude that led Trudeau to break his original promise of sticking to only 鈥榤odest鈥 $10 billion deficits. Now we鈥檙e left with red ink as far as the eye can see.鈥
