My perspective - No Winners

In a debate that pits business owners against employees, minimum wage is in the news again. On Jan. 1, the Ontario government raised the minimum wage by close to 21 per cent; from $11.60 to $14 an hour. For the last few years, minimum wage earners and anti-poverty advocates have been pushing a higher minimum wage as a way to reduce poverty and narrow the widening gap between rich and poor. But businesses are countering, saying that with slim profit margins, higher minimum wages will require them to reduce the number of employees and raise prices for everyone. It’s a complex problem with no clear solution and one in which both sides are right.

Right in the centre - Let there be light

The day light hours are actually getting a tiny bit longer, albeit by only two or three minutes a day. Light is a good  thing. Light has long been associated with truth and knowledge. People will say, let’s shed a bit of light on a certain topic or subject. It’s a great concept as much better decisions are made in the light of truth rather than the darkness of blind assumptions.In good old rural Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ, there has been a lot of decisions made in the darkness of assumptions.

And a Happy New Year...

It is my custom to pause at years’ end and reflect. I do a great deal of reflecting, finding that as I mature I have more time to think and more to think about. A gentle way of admitting I am getting old! It has been a wonderful year. I no longer set as many goals and therefore don’t disappoint myself, or others, but quietly move through the days, appreciating all that I am and all that I have. Being present.
