Winter has come and gone and Rivers Train Station Restoration Committee (RTSRC) continues to move forward with its plans to renovate the station and be sustainable. In the fall of 2015 RTSRC applied for a provincial grant called Partners 4 Growth; it provides 50/50 cost-shared funding for regions to identify and pursue economic development opportunities.

Riverdale Harvest food bank has been in our new location (at Zion Church), with a new schedule for disbursements, for a couple of months now. We are happy to see people are finding us at our new location. We now have a drop-in disbursement method. Anyone can attend anytime between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon on any Thursday. You can come as often as once every two weeks to pick up a hamper. We are striving to make access easier and more consistent for both clients and volunteers.

One of the goals of Women鈥檚 Institute (WI) is to provide education for its members. Rivers WI, like most branches, plans its programs a year in advance so members know what鈥檚 coming up and when. In November one of the many topics that were suggested was Parkinson鈥檚. Pat Wood took on the task of finding a speaker; members welcomed Charlotte Potwondy, Westman co-ordinator for Parkinson鈥檚 Canada, to the April meeting.

An Eden area woman has recently published a book entitled The Heart鈥檚 Journey. The author, Meredith Froese, wrote the book in hopes that it would bring healing to her own and others鈥� hearts. 鈥淕od kept giving me hearts to write on,鈥� Froese explained. She added, 鈥渋t was a healing process for myself.鈥�

In mid-February Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon announced her plan to host a birthday party on April 21, the day Queen Elizabeth turned 90. The Queen鈥檚 representative in 水果视频 invited people born in 1926 to contact her office to express their interest in attending the afternoon party at Government House. Filmon was prepared to invite the first 60 people (and one guest) who responded but her office was so overwhelmed with applications that a morning tea party was held as well. Each party had 150 people and even then, people were turned away because the House could seat no more. Among the guests who attended the afternoon affair were Rivers鈥� own Georgina Bollman and Bertha Shelvey, who moved to Brandon after living in Rivers for 22 years (1989-2011).
