May is Tree Month

After recognizing the need for future tree growth within the municipality, Rivers & Area Community Foundation (RACF) applied to Tree Canada for the CN spruce seedling program in August 2014. Tree Canada offers a program with different sponsors for seedlings and since the community was founded because of the railway, it seemed like a logical connection. The local Millennium Park is a reclaimed CN gravel pit and works very well for this type of program.

Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary - Apr. 30

The regular monthly meeting of Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary was held April 6 in Rivers Legion upper hall; 21 members attended.  Reports and minutes were read and adopted. There were no requests for donations this month and no new applications for memberships.

Busy season for Neepawa 4-H Silver Spur members

Neepawa Silver Spurs

The Neepawa 4-H Silver Spur members have been busy.  On Feb. 7, our club went swimming at the Portage wave pool. We celebrated my birthday. The Neepawa Beef Club organized a pizza supper and the fun at the pool. We had fun with the other club.

Engine in overhaul, caboose to come

A tanker and coal car are the latest wooden railway units to be placed on the grounds at Rivers Elementary School. The engine put there last year, and which provided an enjoyable play area for students, has been returned to the collegiate鈥檚 woodworking classroom for repairs and reinforcements. The project for next year is making the caboose; the engine will be back at the elementary school at the end of this month.
