As the year 2014 comes to a close, how wonderful it is to report that Prairie Crocus Regional Library has been a busy place! Remember last week鈥檚 column when I encouraged holiday giving to your local library? There is still time to make that donation and receive an official charitable receipt.

Managing holiday stress and holiday blues

In the film Meet Me in St. Louis Judy Garland sang the line, 鈥淗ave yourself a merry little Christmas, let your heart be light. From now on our troubles will be out of sight.鈥 Unfortunately, many people struggle with heavy hearts and numerous stressors over the holidays.

Ladies Legion Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary was held Dec. 1; 28 members attended. Before the meeting we enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Shelly Moms Kitchen. Members also brought nonperishable food items for Riverdale Harvest and a few toys which were given to Christmas Cheer.

Legion news - Branch 75

The Dec. 8 meeting was called to order with 12 members present. The two new members approved last month will be sworn in at the January meeting when the new membership year starts.

Phase 1 of the roof project is completed, looks great and it came in slightly under budget! It has been inspected and an application will be made for the first partial payment of the provincial grant. The second phase will be completed in the spring.

The two-hour Woodworth Senior Services afternoon Christmas party took place at Kenton Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 10. With the hall decorated for Christmas, it was easy to get into the Christmas spirit.
