On Nov. 2, 1974 Rapid City area residents gathered at their museum to witness the official opening of Rapid City Regional Library. Skyrocketing heating costs, accessibility issues because of its location on the second floor and crowded quarters because of the burgeoning bevy of books, were reasons for construction of a new 38- by 42-foot building on Third Avenue.

November 11 ceremonies are steeped in tradition but this year鈥檚 event in Rivers saw a number of changes. Held for years in Rivers Theatre, the service was moved in the late 1990s to Rivers Collegiate because the theatre was no longer fit for public service. This year, the Remembrance Day ceremony was held in Riverdale Community Centre because the gym floor at the school is nothing but a base of gravel and the stage is undergoing repairs.

Last week鈥檚 Chamber of Commerce column reminded readers the provincial government provides 水果视频town 水果视频 grants for 鈥渕ain street鈥� development. Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary applied for $800 for a project; they received that funding and paid their own $800+ for the job.
CN Hostel refurbished

The E-shaped building located on CN property in Rivers (north of the little stationette) is filled to capacity with train men and women crew who use the facility between train schedules. It is known as the CN hostel, but those who use and work in the buildings refer to is as The Bunkhouse.
