Last week, Neepawa council effectively voted to muzzle themselves. At the May 19 council meeting, they unanimously and without discussion passed a new media relations policy that could be politely described as 鈥渞estrictive鈥.

Right in the centre - Kick them out!

If there鈥檚 a lesson coming out of Alberta鈥檚 election of an NDP government it is this. People eventually get tired of governments unless those governments can explain their actions to the voters. The 44 year-old PC government in Alberta had gone long past their best before date and could no longer explain their actions to the voters. They had driven off into the political wilderness somewhere and couldn鈥檛 understand why people didn鈥檛 still support them. Their wandering has been well documented.

I shot an arrow into the air

鈥淚 shot an arrow into the air, it fell to earth, I know not where鈥. This line from an American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, has been circling around in my thoughts this week. My reflections had me centering around that actions go out into our universe and we never really know the actual results of what we have done. The words entered and re-entered my consciousness enough that I resorted to searching for a copy of the poem.

Faithfully Yours - Not amused; definitely amazed

As we start the run up to the next provincial election, the government has been busy trying to convince voters that it鈥檚 small business friendly. It鈥檚 an interesting move for the NDP, long seen as the party of large unions.
