This is the first of a monthly Neepawa Press series highlighting stories from some of our local residents.

 Everywhere one goes, there are people with stories to tell. Shocking stories, funny stories, inspiring stories, can be found in places one would never think to look. Mary Murray of Neepawa holds a treasure trove of such tales. Her life has been an adventure from when she was just a few years old, even to now, being in her 70s.

Coast to coast, canoeing for comrades

On April Fool鈥檚 Day, Mike Ranta, of Atikokan, Ont. began a cross-country trip he expects will take six months to complete. According to posts on mikeranta.ca, he started April 1 at dawn 鈥渁t the ocean鈥檚 edge at Fisherman's Memorial, Steveston, BC. Heading up the Fraser River, Mike is aiming to set a speed record on his 2016 journey鈥 faster and farther than any person in history. This epic journey will be accomplished when Mike [lands] at Dominion Beach, Cape Breton, N.S.鈥

Summer is almost here and we鈥檙e getting ready at the Neepawa Library for the TD Summer Reading Club! All ages of children, from pre-readers to teens, can participate in reading, activities and incentives by entering their names for draws.

The Neepawa Rotary Club and guests at their weekly luncheon meeting on Friday, June 10 got to see a bit of Ethiopia, thanks to their guest speaker of the week.

Bill Taylor, a retired teacher from Brandon, was part of a Rotary Sponsored Vocational Training Team that went to Ethiopia to train school teachers.
