WTO rules against country of origin labelling

On May 18, the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO) issued a final ruling confirming that U.S. mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) discriminates against live imports of Canadian cattle and hogs. The ruling, the fourth and final from the WTO on COOL, effectively ends the eight-year legal battle initiated by the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) in 2007 challenging the U.S. labeling law for violating the U.S.’s international trade obligations.

RCMP News Release
On May 20, 2015, at approximately 10:00 pm, Ste Rose du Lac RCMP executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant on a marihuana grow operation at a commercial garage in Alonsa, Ë®¹ûÊÓƵ. Due to the hazardous conditions inside the building, police vacated the garage and held the scene until power was disconnected and it was safe to enter.

Little Valley Jamboree
The 18th annual Little Valley Jamboree will take place in Erickson on June 20 and 21. This year we have two little girls we are sponsoring, named Bailey and Haylie. Here is a shortened version of their problems.

The regular monthly meeting of Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary was held May 4 in the upper hall. May is charter month and is always marked with a supper before the meeting; this year’s potluck was attended by 20 members. Reports and minutes were read and adopted. There were no new applications for membership.
