LUD of Oak River, Feb. 10: The former Town of Rapid City鈥檚 dog bylaw was reviewed. Fines and changes the LUD of Rapid City feel should be made are to be discussed with them so one bylaw could be passed for all hamlets, villages and towns in RM of Oakview. The special services levy which placed a pick-up for garbage fee on taxes on an annual basis ended; a new bylaw needs to be passed if costs for this service are to remain on taxes. Costs were reviewed and a draft proposal for waste collection/removal and recycling services to residents and businesses in Oak River was approved.
Distracted driving enforcement

Rivers Police Service has partnered with 水果视频 Public Insurance and other police agencies throughout the province to conduct an enforcement program targeting distracted driving and other high risk driving behaviours. The enforcement program will run throughout April when there will be a ZERO tolerance for using a cell phone or other hand-operated electronic device while driving a vehicle. Persons found guilty will be subject to a $203.80 fine, plus demerits on their licence.

In May 2014 a group of community partners came together to begin discussing health and well-being issues in Rivers. There were many thoughts and ideas shared around the table. The discussion was lively and many interesting perspectives were shared. We discussed healthy eating, bullying, literacy, getting more active, end of life care issues and the list continued.
Elementary school to see expanded gymnasium

The Pine Creek School Division announced last week plans to move ahead with the long awaited expansion of the Gladstone Elementary School gymnasium. Division superintendent Brian Gouriluk explained that the board has been talking about this project for close to 20 years and the timing was right this year to make the expansion a reality. In this coming year鈥檚 budget, the division created a reserve fund to designate funds for the project.

Now preparing for its 33rd annual production, My Fair Lady, Strathclair Drama Club has provided audiences with the opportunity to see Broadway musicals without having to travel very far. For the past two and a half months, members of Strathclair Drama Club cast have been meeting once or twice a week to memorize lines and music, learn choreography and staging, and try on costumes.
