Meeting the needs of students through staffing support was a key part of this upcoming year鈥檚 budget for the Pine Creek School Division. This year鈥檚 budget will rise 4.78 per cent compared to last year, to a total of $14,255,975.

A tagged northern pike was all smiles after the sound of gunshot signaled the end of the annual ice fishing derby hosted by Rivers and Area Game and Fish Association on Lake Wahtopanah on Saturday, March 14. The cause for celebration, like seven other pike before him, was successfully eluding capture by 210 adult fishers hoping for a $10,000 reward.
Clean up continues of CN property

In the early hours of March 19, the Neepawa Volunteer Fire Department conducted a controlled burn on former CN property. They burned two old fertilizers sheds located near the centre of the property.
Cattlemen's Young Leaders semi-finalist hopes to win next year

Wilco van Meijl was one of 24 semi-finalists vying for 16 mentorship positions in the 2015 Cattlemen鈥檚 Young Leaders (CYL) program year. The program is a Canadian Cattlemen鈥檚 Association (CCA) initiative which aims to provide industry-specific training and mentorship opportunities to young producers.Semi-finalists were selected from 67 applicants, a response which CYL program co-ordinator Jolene Noble says reflects the ongoing popularity of the program.

Hope springs eternal

Amnesty International is a non-governmental global movement focused on human rights and social justice for all. At present, its membership totals seven million people from more than 150 countries. Its motto is "Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." Rivers United Church Outreach and Pastoral Care Committee will be hosting an Amnesty Lunch after worship on Sunday, March 16. A green theme of salads, soup, desserts and beverages will be offered with all proceeds forwarded to Amnesty International.
